NGO and Project Consultant CV Guide for Islamabad and Peshawar
A development-sector CV should explain the projects you worked on, your responsibility and the outputs you can support. For roles in Islamabad or Peshawar, a list of project names is less helpful than evidence matched to the actual job description or terms of reference.
This guide separates salaried project employment from consulting assignments. It does not establish that a particular vacancy is currently open or that every organisation follows the same application process.
Read the job description or terms of reference first
Identify the required experience, deliverables, location and application documents. A consultancy may need more than a CV. For example, an employer-issued WaterAid Pakistan terms-of-reference notice describes assignment requirements and supporting evidence. Use it as an example of a detailed brief, not a current invitation to apply.
| What the brief asks for | Evidence to select |
|---|---|
| Project coordination | Your role in planning, handovers, issue tracking or reporting |
| Monitoring and evaluation | Methods and data checks you actually performed |
| Fieldwork | Actual geographic scope, tasks and reporting responsibilities |
| Consultation or training | Materials prepared, sessions delivered and recorded feedback |
| Deliverable-based consultancy | Outputs, dates and your contribution to accepted work |
Do not copy the terms of reference into your skills section. Match each requirement to a relevant example and identify gaps honestly.
Explain project scope without inflating your role
Name the actual employer or permitted client, project role and dates. Distinguish the organisation funding a project from the organisation employing or contracting you. A donor-funded assignment does not automatically mean employment by that donor.
If your title was Project Officer, do not rename it Programme Manager. Explain leadership responsibilities underneath the correct title. For team reports, identify the analysis or section you prepared rather than claiming authorship of all work.
| Weak wording | More useful wording |
|---|---|
| Worked with communities | Describe the consultation task, your role and how findings were recorded |
| Expert in M&E | Name actual methods, instruments and checks you can demonstrate |
| Managed donor projects | State the employer, project responsibility and outputs rather than implying unrestricted authority |
These are illustrative examples. Participant counts, field coverage and outcomes should come from permitted records, not estimates chosen to make the CV stronger.
Handle fieldwork, languages and references carefully
Give your actual language level and relevant geographic experience. For Peshawar-based or travelling roles, read the stated language and field requirements; do not assume all jobs require the same languages. For Islamabad-based work, confirm whether the role also involves field travel.
Protect participant information, interview notes and sensitive locations. Use a permitted description of methods and outputs rather than sharing raw beneficiary data. Ask references before supplying their contact details, and follow the requested application process.
A public portfolio is optional unless required. If a report is confidential, do not publish it to demonstrate experience. Describe a permitted output and explain its limits.
Keep the CV separate from the proposal
A CV explains your experience. A technical proposal, methodology and workplan explain how you would deliver the new assignment. Include each document the brief requires and follow its page limits.
Record project dates consistently and label independent consulting separately from employment. The contract-work CV guide covers overlapping assignments and transitions to a continuing role.
