How to Write a CV With No Work Experience in Pakistan
An empty Work Experience section can make a first CV feel difficult to write. But paid employment is only one source of experience. Coursework, society events and personal projects can show how you solve problems and work with other people.
The key is to describe what you actually did and label it clearly. A university assignment belongs under Projects, not under a job title. Once you have gathered your material, the graduate CV format guide will help you arrange it.
List the work you have already done
Take a blank sheet and list things you have completed, not just traits you believe you have. For each activity, record the purpose, your contribution, the tools you used and something another person could inspect.
| Activity | Your contribution | Evidence you can describe |
|---|---|---|
| Coursework | Cleaned survey responses | Spreadsheet, method and presentation |
| Society event | Managed registrations | Attendance sheet and communication plan |
| Volunteer work | Prepared a lesson activity | Materials and supervisor feedback |
| Personal project | Built a small budget tracker | Working file and instructions |
Select examples that connect to the role. A trainee operations application might benefit from organised records and accurate spreadsheet work. A customer-support application might benefit from communicating instructions and resolving an event-registration problem.

Turn an activity into a useful bullet
Weak: “Worked on a university project and gained teamwork skills.”
Improved: “Cleaned a sample survey spreadsheet, removed duplicate entries using documented rules and prepared charts for the team presentation.”
The improved bullet explains an action and output. It does not claim that the coursework was a commercial consulting job. If you have a real count or result, add it only when you can explain how it was measured.
Try this sentence pattern: Did what + using which method or tool + for what purpose. Not every bullet needs a percentage. A reliable record, a tested spreadsheet or a clear report can be a useful outcome.
Volunteering, informal work and family businesses
Include genuine activity when relevant. If you helped a family shop reconcile its weekly sales sheet, state the business context and what you actually did. Do not promote yourself to Finance Manager for occasional assistance.
For freelance work, identify the actual service and whether it was paid client work or a personal practice project. Do not list a marketplace account as employment when you have not completed a client assignment.
Ask permission before naming a client or sharing its internal figures. An anonymised description can still explain the work without exposing records.
What to leave out
Avoid unsupported skill ratings, fabricated internships, long lists of unrelated course certificates and claims such as “expert” based only on a short tutorial. A certificate can show that you completed training; it does not prove professional experience by itself.
You do not need an explanation for having no paid job if you are applying as a student or graduate. Put the useful evidence where the reader expects it. Use the Pakistan CV guide for contact and personal-detail choices.
Build the first version
Choose three or four relevant examples from your inventory. Write a short entry for each, then select a layout from Everyday template. Follow the first-resume walkthrough to place education, projects and activities in the editor.
Its familiar headings and simple single-column layout suit coursework, volunteering and society activities. Label each example honestly rather than presenting student projects as paid employment.
Before applying, ask a classmate to identify the role you want and explain your strongest example after reading the page. If they cannot, make the heading and first project more specific. Start your CV once the content is ready.
Common questions
Can I include projects that are still in progress?
Yes. Label them “In progress,” give dates and describe completed work. Do not present planned features as finished results.
What if I have no projects or volunteering?
Look for completed assignments and practical exercises first. If none supports the role, complete a small relevant project and document it honestly rather than inventing an entry.
Should I include school activities?
Use them when they are relevant and you have little more recent material. Replace them as stronger university or practical evidence becomes available.
