Best CV Format in Pakistan: Examples and a Writing Guide

When you sit down to write a CV, the layout is often the first thing you worry about. Start with something simple: your contact details, recent work, education and skills. If you have just graduated, move your projects and education above your work history.

The right order depends on the job. A software house may want to see what you built; a bank trainee vacancy may place more weight on your degree. If an employer provides an application form, follow that format first.

Choose a section order that fits your experience

ApplicantSuggested section orderWhat deserves the most space
Experienced professionalContact, summary, experience, skills, educationRecent relevant work and results
Fresh graduateContact, summary, education, projects, internship, skillsProjects and practical contributions
Career changerContact, focused summary, relevant work or projects, other experience, educationEvidence that connects previous work to the new role

A one-page document is a sensible starting point for a graduate. An experienced applicant can use a second page when it contains relevant evidence. Do not shrink the text until it is difficult to read simply to fit a page count.

A complete sample CV

The candidate, employer and results below are fictional. They demonstrate the format; replace every detail with your own evidence.

Write evidence instead of responsibilities alone

A weak bullet says, “Responsible for software development.” It names a duty but gives the reader little to assess. A more useful bullet says, “Built an order-management interface in React with searchable records and role-based views.”

Use a measured result when you have records or a reproducible test. If you cannot verify a number, describe the output and its purpose. Do not invent percentages to make a bullet sound impressive.

For a bank application, the same principle could produce “Reconciled a fictional coursework ledger and documented three mismatched entries” rather than “Excellent banking knowledge.” Label classroom work as a project, not employment.

Contact details and personal information

Use your city, a monitored email address and a phone number you can answer. An international format beginning with +92 is useful for overseas applications. A street address is usually unnecessary for initial screening.

For a general-purpose CV, leave out CNIC numbers, family details and a photo unless the employer explicitly requests them. If an official application form asks for identity details, complete the specified fields rather than copying them into every CV. The photo and CNIC guide explains that distinction.

Choose a readable template and export carefully

Start with a design that has clear headings and a predictable reading order. Put your name and contact details in the main document content. Use text to list skills instead of star ratings or progress bars. Keep dates consistent, such as “July 2024–September 2024.”

Browse the Meridian template, inspect the preview and choose a design that leaves enough room for your evidence. Follow the first-resume walkthrough if you need help using the builder. If you already have a document, the import guide shows how to reuse it.

Its single-column body and clear section dividers suit the general-purpose CV in this guide. Adjust the section order so your strongest work or education comes first.

Before you apply

  • Read the vacancy and check the required qualification, location and file type.
  • Put the strongest relevant work in the first half of the document.
  • Confirm that job titles, degree names and dates are accurate.
  • Open the exported file on a phone and a computer.
  • Select and copy its text to check the reading order.
  • Use a clear filename such as Ahmad-Raza-Software-Engineer-CV.pdf.

An ATS-readiness score is feedback about a document, not a guarantee of an interview. Relevance and truthful evidence still matter. You can create your CV when your content is ready.

Common questions

Should every Pakistani CV use the same format?

No. Use this structure as a starting point and follow the application instructions. A prescribed government or university form has its own requirements.

Should I include matriculation and intermediate results?

Include them when the vacancy asks, or when they help establish eligibility. Otherwise, recent relevant education can take priority.

Is a PDF always required?

No. Send the file type the employer requests. A text-based PDF is useful when accepted because you can inspect its layout before submitting it.
